RUSTY JABBZ NEWSLETTER
AUGUST 2011 ISSUE # 01

Another year full of that adrenaline rush, heart pumping blood event known as Rocksteady. First before I attend any event, this scent of my Prospect Park summer job stench "GARBAGE" must be removed from my body and I must get myself freshened up.

I want to give a phat shout out to my dude, Tex and his dudes, Todd and Seth for coming through this afternoon. I hope you've enjoyed all that Rocksteady had to offer today.

It's 12:02pm now, I'm on my way to meet up with my homie, Tex at Penn Station. I got to take this time to shout out my homegurl of the last 15 years, Michelle B-More. Who I ran into at Penn station on my way there. We added on for the journey to Rocksteady, it would have been nice Michelle if you scored some pull to get me and my peeps backstage. That's alright though you still cool with me and we're still going to have a ball, regardless.

It's that last weekend in July, everyone looks forward too. "ROCKSTEADY WEEKEND!!!"
Today is, Rocksteady's 34th Anniversary. I can't believe I'm older than, Rocksteady. I'm looking at it from a perspective when you see yourself older than an iconic hip hop organization. Even if its only by two years. Being born in 1975, I never thought about something as such. Growing up alongside a Legendary Hip Hop Dance Crew/ Organization.

The line up at today's Rocksteady's Anniversary is supposed to be sick. Word on the net.... groups/ artists like EPMD, Natural Elements, Dysfunkshunal Familee, The Cold Crush Bros, Neek The Exotic and Large Professor, Keith Murray, Wise Intelligent, Grand Daddy I. U., Black Rob, Jean Grae, Q-Unique, Rahzel, Pacewon, Govmatic and a few other names on the card. It's going to be an exciting day. Just love the way the park is hooked up with street merchants and food vendors. I got to give a shout to Newark Police dept, who is out here in control of the perimeter. Securing our safety. Everyday we watch the news and we hear negative and violent things about Newark, New Jersey. Standing out here, right now I do not feel nor do I sense any form of violence in this community. Today is a day of love, peace, happiness and HIP HOP!!!

I secured my prominent spot, a sweet spot at the anniversary for exclusive video and photo coverage. My homegurl, Michelle she's backstage with an array of artist scheduled for today's festivities on the roster.

What up to my dude, Sav Killz pardon for missing your performance. I was actually in the park when you were performing I just arrived when you were introduced. I didn't make my way over to the stage yet. I knew it was you, I could hear you from the other side of the park.
Whether I heard or seen an performance for the remainder of the day. I recall, 28 acts followed after Sav Killz. Yes, there were times throughout the day when I went back and forth to seek other enjoyment. For instance, the big skateboarding extravaganza taken place on the outside of the park sponsored in part by Life Water. That was so awesome a definite cool addition to the Rocksteady Anniversary. SKATEBOARDING is everyone seeing that as the sixth element of hip hop.

Even though there were numerous occasions where I left my place at the front row of the stage. I was still able to retrieve my place back in that same position. Which is something that seldom happens specifically in New York. In New York, if you attend a free concert once you move, you lose. It's not that easy finding another spot where you'll be able to shoot the same footage from where you was once standing. Out here in New Jersey, everything is a lil' more smoother. Well, some what smoother. It was not smooth when I kept receiving the constant hits and bumps of the people walking behind me during my recordings. I apologize to everyone viewing, www.youtube.com/worldwidejabbz . I'll do my best with the editing and I hope you've enjoy the work I layed out.

It was somewhere around, 4 my dude, Tex decide to leave and head back to NYC. Sun got a early flight in the morning to Seattle. Tex, thanx a million my dude for the company one love. Have a safe flight to Seattle. Say, what's up to all your west coast homies for me from The Dinero.
I decide to kick it out here at Rocksteady, a little longer and gather more footage. Up until now, I've seen Denero, Dysfunkshunal Familee, Natural Elements, Grip, K. M., Illaghee and Big Twin, Hakim Green and Young Guru, Craig G and Masta Ace, Kurious Jorge and The Bamboo Bros, Mazi and Pace Won, Gutter and The Artifacts.

Phat shout out to Dj Bizarro of The Dysfunkshunal Familee, it was a blessing seein' you and your crew live on stage. Its been along time, nice to see y' all still on the grind and still down with HIP HOP!!!. (To that Bitch Ass nigga, Owen Marshall you could of been one of them but you decided to sell out to DEP and them CRACKERS!!!)

Phat shout out to Natural Elements that was a blessing. Seeing y' all live on stage just livin' it up.
The party continued on, around 5pm the game done changed once this name was introduced to the stage. All the way live from the 3-2-3 area code put your hands together for, Ras Kass.
Ras Kass was doin' a great job until this man came on to the stage to assist him, Pack FM with background and adlibs. No disrespect to Pack FM. Wait, who am I foolin' lay out all the disrespect to Pack FM. Pack FM was not needed on stage during Ras Kass's set, he just wanted Rocksteady spotlight because they ain't book him this year. Well, boo hoo to Pack FM! I had no idea that they were even tight. They must have made this arrangement backstage.
Ras Kass, forgetting he's on the east coast. He out here pushin' it to the limit performing "Fuck The Police" that song was not called for especially when Newark Police officers not showing any signs of aggression or attitude. Now if we were in New York, Ras Kass have my approval to perform that song and direct it towards the NYPD but Newark PD is cool today.

Thanks to Ras Kass for making that trip out here to perform for the 34th Rocksteady Anniversary, Tex I'm sorry you and your peoples missed out. I know you wanted to see him perform. As well as see some live breakdancing. I know, that were your primary interests for coming out here but Tex soon as you guys left about two hours later they did eventually have breakdancers perform. Crazylegs and The Rocksteady Crew doin' their thing. Don't worry, sun I got 'em layed out for ya. Just log on www.youtube.com/worldwidejabbz. Hope you enjoy it.

It was after, the Rocksteady breakdance performance. I needed to leave my place at the front of the stage again. I'm starving, I left my home on a bowl of cereal I've eaten early this morning. I been standing up for the past six hours in 90 degree weather trying to survive off 3 hours and 15 minutes of sleep from last night. I had to do something I don't normally do and that's seek food from strangers/ independent street chefs. At a time like this, I need to make an exception. The Cold Crush Brothers, were up next I had to sit there performance out and eat. I apologize to anyone who was hoping to see some, Cold Crush Brothers performance on www.youtube.com/worldwidejabbz. However, if your looking for Cold Crush Brothers performances. I have a series of recent Cold Crush Brothers performances recorded. Feel free to call Rusty Jabbz Entertainment and Merchandise at 13477894543.

This isn't your average hip hop affair. Well, not if your from New York City. This right here is an more thugged out ghetto style atmosphere. Various 40 bottles toted up in the air throughout the crowd. You rarely find heavily intoxicated people live at a hip hop concert. We can not forget, we're inside a park so New York law this would be considered, "Open Content". Thank, God for New Jersey and for Newark PD for their liency on hip hop today.

New Jersey brings an whole new meaning to hip hop and free concerts. Like this man, The God of New Jersey, The King of all Kings in New Jersey. The Original, Poor Righteous Teacher Wise Intelligent. Wise Intelligent The Supreme Emcee of the night and still more to come. Wise Intelligent wasn't even a main event but I really dug his set. He tore it up. I salute any emcee that spits true knowledge and true lyricism. To me that makes you phenomenon. I want to express some words of wisdoms from Brother Wise Intelligent that every blackman should take heed too....
"they say we got 99 problems and a bitch isn't one of them...
THE BLACKMAN'S ONLY PROBLEM IS A FUCKIN' LACK OF KNOWLEDGE!!!"

That was something deep right there coming straight from the mind of the intellect.

I couldn't stay out at Rocksteady 34th Anniversary any longer. Oh how I wish I could. A lot of acts were booked to perform. I left at 9 o'clock everything were still goin' on. I don't have any idea when all of this is supposed to come to an end. I understand why, Rocksteady been goin' strong out here for the past four years now.
I spent nine hours in what the news media always portray as an high crime community. You hear a lot of things being said about Newark, New Jersey. I've been here all day in the spirit and good gracious of hip hop and haven't any drama popped off. I wouldn't ask for anything better.

Okay this is not what I've had planned. I left the park in hopes to be on my way back to New York. Instead I found myself standing at the bus stop waiting for the Newark bus #62 to take me back to Newark Penn station. I've been standing here across the street from this park at this bus stop through Rah Digga's whole set. Now, Neek The Exotic and Large Professor are about to get on. I'm not familiar with the Newark transportation system. All I know I need, Bus # 62 to take me back to Newark Penn station. I stood at this bus stop for an whole hour. I was getting restless. Neek and Large Pro, set was coming to an end. If I would have known I was going to be standing here at this bus stop for so long I would have stayed longer at Lincoln park. I took it upon myself to walk to Newark Penn station. Thank you, God for your assistance and creation of GPS attached to cell phones to help lead me back to the Newark Penn station. Of course, no soon as I start walking towards Newark Penn station. All of sudden bus #62 passes me by, two buses to be exact. Just my luck.

And on that note everybody. I had a great time at another successful, fun, exciting Rocksteady Anniversary extravaganza. Rocksteady Anniversary is what I live for and look forward too every year. It's that one summer hip hop gathering that unite everyone as a whole into one big happy family. It was a thrill to see all the lil' jimmies out here in the park. It was also a thrill to see all the big jimmies out here as well. Love seeing the sexy ladies in the park. Nuff Respect to the Hasidic Jews that came through to Rocksteady with the curlers, the yamakas, the strings and all of that. They came with it moving in the rhythm of hip hop. That's what hip hop is all about one life, one family, one music.

Hip Hop is not just for street people. Hip Hop is not just for black people. Hip Hop is for ALL PEOPLE. We've came along way. It's events like Rocksteady's 34th Anniversary, events like Tools Of War' True School NYC Park Jams series and events like the Brooklyn Bodega's Hip Hop Festival that shows us how far we've come in the culture of hip hop.
