This is Dj Handspin Dinero doing it once again, Rusty Jabbz Ent Style. Today, imma bring you a lost interview. Although, it was more like a ONE ON ONE, Q AND A type thing. As you know last month on Oct. 15th was the grand opening of the new Guitar Center in the Atlantic Center Mall Downtown Brooklyn. It was an extraordinary event and night I met alotta of Celebrity djs and legendary djs. There was one dj in particular that I also interviewed later in the night. He's one of my favorite djs. Hold up, HE'S MY ONLY FAVORITE DJ/TURNTABLISTS of the 80s, Dj Scratch. Former dj of legendary rap group, EPMD and former dj/producer of Busta Rhymes. Dj Scratch is known for having work with those acts. But I know Dj Scratch from his "DJ CINEMA:FRIDAY THE 13TH I'M A PLAY, JASON" routine. Dj Handspin: Dj Scratch, welcome to Rusty Jabbz Newz. Let’s jump right into it. What year did you start djing?

Dj Scratch: 1976

Dj Handspin: How did you become a dj?

Dj Scratch: From my older brothers. Me being the youngest. My brothers used to dj and practice in the house but would never let me get on the tables. There were times when my brothers would leave and that’s when I would sneak on the wheels and practice. Alotta times my brothers would catch me and scold me but me being the lil’ brother I would never listen. There was one time my brother did somethin’ to the turntables to prevent me from using it.

Dj Handspin: What was it?

Dj Scratch: He removed the rubberband, well at least at that age of 8 that’s what I thought it was. So when I went to go play a record, it wouldn’t spin.

Dj Handspin: So, what did you do because you seemed very determined at that age?

Dj Scratch: I steered at the tables and tried to figure out the problem and once I did. I asked my mom if I could go to the store and once she said, yes. I went down to the fruit and vegetable stands and stole a few rubberbands. You know the ones they wrap the bananas & things in the plastics. Anyway, once I got back to the crib, I took those rubberbands and I used them as the replacement for the one my brother had taken off.

Dj Handspin: Word, that was very innovating of you.

Dj Scratch: Once I got ‘em on I began practicing and practicing. Time was amongst me I didn’t even know. It turns out I was on the set for “GOD KNOW, HOW MANY HOURS?” See my brothers went somewhere special and they weren’t coming home anytime soon. So, I just kept on all day. Until my brothers eventually came home.

Dj Handspin: Well, obviously your brothers didn’t kill you because your alive and one of the most successful turntablist, today?

Dj Scratch: Nah, they stood behind me and watched me they were surprised by my talent. So, pretty much after all that my brothers left me alone and stop disconnecting their equipment everytime they went out.

Dj Handspin: Wow, that’s whats up? So, that’s how Dj Scratch was born?

Dj Scratch: Pretty much

Dj Handspin: What was the first turntable you ever dj’d on?

Dj Scratch: My brothers had this turntable called, “SLB-101” it was belt driven.

Dj Handspin: I know about those kind of turntables. My first turntable was also belt driven. What tricks did you learn on it?

Dj Scratch: When I was young, I did learn this trick called, “THE MOTORCYCLE”. It was one of the first tricks I ever learned in fact at the end of tonight. I’m involved with the Dj Battle, I was planning on breaking it out tonight.

Dj Handspin: Definitely, I would love to see it and I know the crowd would definitely enjoy it too. In fact there about to start the battle soon, is there anything you would like to say before we end this interview?

Dj Scratch: I just wanna say, REST IN PEACE to my POPS. My father recently passed away but in the spirit of Hip Hop I came out here to represent.

Dj Handspin: Wow, that’s messed up, sorry to hear about your maker passing away.
